tactics when buying a '92 d250
hi folks, looking for a little guidance. after selling my problematic 6.5l gmc diesel, am now looking for a good towing pickup with a cummins. i've driven a couple '96 2500s and a '98 12 valve (all with automatic transmissions), and will be seeing a '92 d250 extended-cab on friday or saturday. can anyone tell me the main things i should be looking for on the '92? similarities/differences i'll notice between that and the '96/'98 models?
the truck has 450,000 miles on it, but could be a steal at under $1800. i want to be sure to check it over thoroughly. it's the 2-wheel drive model (i wanted 4x4 for montana winters, but was told even the 2wd rams are still pretty powerful on rough terrain). got any tips on smart buying strategies with a high-mileage truck like this one?
thank you for any input you can provide!

well living in ontario i can confirm that these trucks are fine in the snow even with only
2wd. but i do have a 1/2 inch steel plate bolted over the rear axle. the main thing id watch for is rust ont he chassis. are you going to have to change everything underneath for it to be safe?

good point, thanks nemesis. hopefully this has been a rust-free california truck for its lifetime. i'll try to find out whatever history i can, but unfortunately - the guy is selling it for his brother and has little knowledge of the truck & no way of getting info from the brother. i'll get under there and have a good look for rust.
