Default 88 Power Ram 50 Carburetor

I have the service manuals for my 1988 Power Ram 50. The carbs are for Dodges, Plymouth Arrows, and Mitsubishi Mighty Max. Probably 87-89. Mine is a Mikuni-Solex 32-35DIDEF-429 for 2.6L and Man. Trans. Depends on 2.0L, 2.6L, Auto. Trans. or Manual.

Can you tell me what kind of mileage you are getting with the Weber conversion?

Default Milage

It's pretty terrible, like 15 mpg, and it deosn't matter if I drive it on the highway or around town, the mileage is the same. Of course, when I got the truck it wasn't running very well so I don't know what it got with the original carb. Mine is also automatic with air and PS so that makes the mileage a little worse than it would be with a manual. Honestly I think it runs a little rich because it was fouling plugs real bad when I first did the conversion. I tweaked the float level and added a fuel pressure regulator and I haven't fouled a plug in about two years but I still feel like it is rich. I have also had trouble with flooding because of the electric choke, when restarting after a trip into a store or something, the choke closes just enough to flood it.

Honestly the mileage is why I have quit trying to fix it up. I could be driving a full size 4x4, which is what I really need anyway, and get the same mileage and better performance. My RAM 50 is a slug on the highway, even with the weber. It really struggles to stay at 70 mph. My advice, if you plan on driving it a lot, would be to find an engine and computer from a later model that was fuel injected and drop it in. The weber seems to be a good fix if you just want to get it running and have it as simple and easy to work on as possible. It does eliminate a lot of BS in the engine compartment.

It is pretty bad. I also am only getting around 15mpg. I have 31x10.5x15's on it also so that does not help. I do use it as a daily driver but I cringe whenever I stop at the pump.
