Default things to check for

I am looking at buying a 1982 W150 4x4. It has a 318 and a 727. I am going to look at it on Saturday, and am wondering if there is anything spricifc i should look for? The seller says that it needs motor mounts, i know this is a job but is that enough to walk from the deal? thanks in advance.

motor mounts are cheap $25, or you could chain the engine to the frame. check the doors to see if they drop or not. check the rockers to see if there solid. also lift the floor mats to see what shape the floors are in.

Yeah the price of the part is cheap, it was more how difficult is it to change engine mounts. I was thinking i could use a engine hoist to lift the engine enough to change the mounts. Is this a totally crazy idea? If i buy the truck i would be planning on keeping it at least 3 years, so i would like to do it right. of course chaining it to the frame would work in the near term. Then again the owner told me it has a rear main seal leak it might be easier to pull the engine and fit that wile i am at it.

if you have access to a engine hoist the motor mounts should be a simple job. the rear main seal is not too hard to change. drop the oil pan and remove rear main bearing cap and replace the seal. before replacing the seal i would see how bad it leaks. if it is just a small leak i would leave it.

I've changed many a motor mount with a jack and a block of wood to support the motor.
