Tips on EZ way to drain old gas from tank?
I can't for the life of me get a hose to go down the filler neck to use an electric fuel pump rig I have for transferring/draining tanks I use on other vehicles and boats...
Is there a way to hot wire the pump in the tank and drain the old fuel from the line to the throttle body?
I realize that just turning the key on is not going to keep the pump running as it will only run a few seconds unless the engine starts.
This old dog has been sitting many months longer than I wanted it to and I know the gas is sour. I did not want to have to drop that 33 gallon monster out from under unless absolutely necessary.

just drill a hole in the bottom of tank and drain it. comes out fast makes a mess though lol
Their is a float that stops the fuel from draining out the gas tank if the vehicle flips over you sometimes can't get the hose by that float
yes you can hotwire it from the fuel pump relay that will turn on the pump.
What prong is the one you need to power up the fuel pump i have know idea sorry can't help you their
one prong will be hot
one will be ground
one will be from computer
the other will be for the fuel pump to work
if you have a five prong one in middle that will be from the computer also that one triggers the fuel pump for 15 20 seconds
hope that helps

Thanks Pizzo, I can probably figure out how to hot wire the pump by checking out a good diagram. The Haynes is, as usual, not a great manual for many things.
I thought I remembered there being a test plug in lead in the engine compartment some where you just hot wired direct to, but I may be thinking of a different vehicle/manufacturer that had that.
The gas is near two years old and I can smell it's very sour/varnished and I'm not going to attempt to start and run it on that nasty stuff.
I may bite the bullet and drop the tank or I may be taking the bed off anyway ( which I could then easily pull the sender pump unit) as it was wrecked bad on one side and getting really rusted floor. Thinking of turning it into a flat bed. This truck already has the nickname "Mater" from my young son LOL so no big deal for what I use it for a flat bed would be fine.
Thanks for the replies.

i came across how to make the fuel pump by mistake. i was checking something and it said "if the fuel pump engerzies then connection is working." only i dont rmeber what i was checking. a relay or something. cant find it now though.
You can manually energize the pump as has already been suggested, or you can let the tank down enough to see the pump. There is a capped tube (Nipple) off the pump that is for siphoning the tank. Extend your "J" bolts one at a time with coupling nuts and threaded rod to let down the tank.
