Well I thought it'd be a good idea to fix the tilt column in Doris today. It was not the funnest fix I've ever performed but it wasn't horrible.

only two issues now that it's together:

the turn signals don't cancel (I SWEAR I thought I had that all in the right way...)

the wheel is floppy now.

the tilt piece is nice and tight now...I used blue threadlocker (medium) on cleaned up bolts...and it all finally went back together... but the wheel is floppy....is the little plastic ring on the back of the wheel supposed to "take up the slack" and let the wheel flex a little and it just happens to be worn out?

other than that it's nice n tight and well worth the effort. hopefully I won't have to do it again soon.

a buddy of mine has an 85ish first gen. his steering wheel got loose and floppy and he had a guy replace the bearing under the steering wheel. it fixed it for awhile and then broke again. i pulled his steering wheel and we looked at it. we found out that the first guy had put the bearing in backwards and it had separated. he bought a new one at the dealer and we put it in right and it'll probably last another 30 years.
