Default All this snow played hell on my transfer-case

After 16 hrs of plowin 2+ feet of snow, she finally let loose. the ole np208 wasn't up for all that. Luckly i have "spare" parts. took me 5 hrs to drop mine, the one from the donner truck and reinstall in mine. Not to bad for doing it in 2' of snow, ya think? And i'm back to pushin money. Aw, I mean snow.

Got a question for ya. Think i should swap the NP208 out, for a Np205? I've heard there a stronger unit and gear driven, no chain. Is this true? Any help would be apperciated.

It's a mildly built 318 with a 727 tranny. This truck spends ALOT of time off road, plowin snow, up here in the mountains and haulin firewood, outa the mountains.

I have the NP241 and 727 and use my truck the same way you do and have had no trouble. I just did over 27 hours total pushing 22 inches of snow. Yes the NP205 has gears with no chain. The NP205 is the heavy duty transfer case for our trucks.

olewhite; Yes the 208 is chain drive. These should answer your questions.

Default '87 w100 transfer case

I have a w100 also, but the build sheet lists the transfer as a npg-208. What is the g designation for? A few posts i've read hinted that it may be gear driven

NP = New Process, NPG = New Process Gear, They are two different names for the same company.

New Process Gear, a division of Magna Powertrain, was a joint-venture automobile transmission company set up by General Motors and the Chrysler Corporation in February 1990. It was 64% owned by DaimlerChrysler and 36% owned by GM until February 2002, when General Motors sold its stake in the company to DaimlerChrysler. Magna International purchased 80% of the company, under the holding name "New Process Gear", from DaimlerChrysler on September 29, 2004 and continues to operate it. As of 2007, Magna owns 80% of the plant.
New Venture Gear inherited Chrysler's New Process Gear Syracuse, New York plant and GM's Muncie, Indiana transmission plant. The New Process plant was renamed to the "New Process Gear Division" of New Venture Gear. New Venture operates a similar operation in Roitzsch, Germany. The Muncie plant was reverted to GM control. The name of this GM Plant was changed to "Manual Transmissions Of Muncie". It closed its doors in mid 2006, and was turned over to Delaware County, IN. The plant was soon demolished after the turnover to Delaware County, IN. Magna, after two rejections of concessions by the union, has also announced its intent to close the Syracuse plant.
New Process Gear itself has been in business since 1888.

Default output yoke

Thanks Seal. Another question, I need to replace the output yoke but am having trouble identifying the right replacement. It's a 32 spline fixed yoke, but i'm not sure on the driveshaft spec, or a good place to find the part. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
