93 D to W 150 conversion?
I have heard that converting the front of the 93 D150 to a front drive axel isn't all that hard. I was wondering if anyone has done this before, what all parts are needed, and if it's actually doable.
These are the main parts I figure I'd need to find:
front axle with 4.10 ratio (same as rear)
transfercase to fit on (I think a 727? Auto transmission)
front drive shaft
new rear drive shaft
new front suspension
Things I'm not sure about:
new exhaust to clear front axle
linkage between transfercase and tranny or throttle body?
Is there any thing else I would need?
Will parts from a W250 fit on the D150, hoping for a straight swap over using only the donar truck for all the parts?
Will I need new rear suspension as well, or just make sure the front isn't higher than the rear?
I crawled under the truck with a friend and he showed me what he thought were mount points for leaf spring shackles. Is that what we seen, or at least possibly seen?
This is kind of a dream atm, I'm still trying to get the w250 from someone, but he's not wanting to let it go. The body, cab, interior, bed and frame are about as bad as some of those yankee trucks I've seen pictures on here of. It was taken mudding in some old salt flats where the engine got blown, hauled back and sat behind a barn for years.
They never washed it up, but he's wanting to rebuild the engine to use in a hotrod. It's was a 440 block, but he's got it bored out and forgot what it's up to. Too much engine for me anyways. The drive shafts and rest of the drive train look to still be in good condition. We're not sure what ratio the axle is though, so I might just look for a different one anyways. Anyways, the condition of the truck overall is why I just want to swap everything. If I can get the truck, minus engine and transmission for a few hundred, would it be worth it?

Do you feel comfortable going inside the tranny to change out the output shaft and tail shaft? If not you might want to swap trannys with him also. He will not be able to use his tranny without modification for anything but a 4 wheel drive.
jl49444; Raise one rear wheel off the ground in neutral. Mark the tire and the drive shaft with chalk at their lowest point. turn the tire one revolution while counting the number of drive shaft revolutions. 4 and a half revolutions would be a 4.56, 3 1/4 revolutions would be a 3.23 and so forth. Getting a build sheet is easier and does not require any knowledge of available gear ratios or interpretation if you believe the truck is stock.
i was also wanting to do this to my 93 D150 i already have a 93 W250 donor truck but i was wondering what i have to do for a 4x4 shifter? i would love to see what other people have done. if anyone has any ideas/pics love to see them.
