crancks slow
MY 1989 dogde ram50 mini pickup will not start. It cranks slowly. I replaced wires, plugs, distibutor cap, rotor, I even put a new battery in it. cant the starter cause this problem? Or is there something im missing any help would be appriciated thanks Dan. (my engine is a 4cylinder 2.6)
It is more likely the starter then any of the ignition parts you replaced. It can also be a bad battery cable. I am not at all familiar with that starter but a bad solenoid like those on the old GM rigs can even fail to deliver enough amperage to the starter to crank it over.
Then there is the remote chance that you have a spun bearing locking up the engine.
I would start with starter and cables.

when starters slow down and drag, it could be a worn out bushing allowing the armature to drag inside the frame, or it could be worn out (or gummed up) brushes inside it. remove the starter and bench test it with a battery or battery charger. see how it feels and acts. a long time ago you could get rebuild kits that included brushes and bushing for only a couple of bucks. diy rebuild is not too common anymore but you could look into it.
if its draggy slow on the bench, and if you want to investigate, you can take it apart and look at the commutator and brushes. the comm should have grooves between the bars. sometimes these will gum up and can be scraped clean with little screwdriver. i did this on my daughters 4runner awhile back and saved having to buy a $100 starter.

he's suggesting the possibility that you have a severely damaged bearing on the crankshaft and the motor is semi-tightened or semi-locked up.
i doubt it.
