Default holley 2280? help me

Alright guys my buddy has a 1986 d150 with a 318 and a holley 2280. He says he was going to the gas station to fill it up when he got on it and its been running rough ever since. We did a little investigative work and replaced the fuel filter and fuel line. Now his truck is a real hackjob under the hood so I was wondering if he could lose all the smog pump and emissions crap like that giant cannister? My question is this thing worth keeping or should he swap for a 4bbl? Ive never really worked on a truck with all this epa junk on it so if there is anyway to eliminate it I am interested to hear. Thanks

yes, this is probably the last year for the carbed motors. I;m sure you could remove the stuff as long as no computer control is present (wires going into the carb etc.) I'm trying to figure out the reason for the rpugh running. The best I can come up with is that the egr valve got stuck open somehow. I believe a 2300 holley will fit on that intake also or even a rochestor 2GC.

the wires are probably for an electric choke. if it is computer controlled the computer will be in the fender behind the battery. 87 was the last year for carbs on the trucks. it running rough could be caused by alot. how are the sparkplugs, cap, rotor and wires. could also be a broke vacuum line.

The cap and wires look pretty new. I didnt have many tools on me at the time so I didnt check the plugs. I feel real sure its a fuel issue because its not real rich come out of the exhaust. As for the choke It is manual, so I think the wires go to some kind of sensor on the drivers side of the carb.

Do NOT remove the charcoal canister. That's the vent for the gas tank and you'll smell gas all the time if you remove it.
