Location jack in the chassis

Yes,jacking under the center section can loosen the axle tubes,I have seen this,tho not common,often the result is premature tire and bearing wear.
Gearing is a good place to start,depending on primary use,3.91 gears are a good balance.
You can jack under the outer axle tube or spring plate,under the control arm(depending on clearance) or k member or under a flat part of your frame.

I've been jacking cars and trucks up since 1952 many times with the jack under the punkin and have never seen an axle tube come loose.
