My 89 ram 50 pickup will not start. Engine turns over and the carb makes a psst sound and a white puff of smoke comes out. I tuned it up an also installed a new battery and a new starter. Any ideas what the problem can be. Thanks Dan

Have you checked the static timing?

A carb on a 1989?
Static timing; Turn the engine by hand so the timing marks on the crank line up to the correct timing setting. Pop the distributer cap and see if the rotor is pointing at number one cylinder or exactly 180 degrees away from number one cylinder. Either one is OK. If it is not pointing properly the timing is off.
