Default Exhaust from scratch! Help?

I have a 79 pickup with a 74 drivetrain. Right now I have no exhaust so I get to start from scratch! The only parts I have is a rusty set of headers from a 80 ramcharger R.I.P.. I need advice on what diameter pipe i should use 3" or 2.5", what muffler and I've heard a bit about X-pipe and H-pipe configurations. From what I've heard "H" is the way to go for a deep rumbly sound. I know I want to use flowmaster but I've also heard good things about Magna. Any advice or opinion is welcomed and appreciated. Oh I also want to go with Dual Exhaust of course. anyway thanks!! In reply I have the side mounted gas tank and plan on running down the passenger side then spliting out the back.

Do you have a center mount fuel tank? If not, have you thought about how you are going to run the drivers side?

Unless you run a Ramcharger gas tank (center mount) I don't think you can do true duals.

Default Exhaust systems 70–93 Dodge/Plymouth 1/2, 3/4 Ton Trucks (2WD & 4WD): 318–360

Here are some options, And they are True Dual.....

All systems come with all new hardware and hangers

Heart throbe exhaust

but it is only for manifold back
but it includes the mufflers or glass packs

http://www.heartthrobexhaustinc.com/...ddualkits.html

Hooker Exhaust

They have for either manifold or header back
But does not include the mufflers or glass packs

http://www.holley.com/types/Competit...%20Systems.asp

16552HKR - is for the header back
16652HKR - is for the manifold back

Default x or h pipe

You can not use a X or H pipe if you have 4wd. the drive shafts and transfer case would be in the way.

Unforutuntely I have the side mount gas tank. I was thinkin of running the exhaust down the passenger side then after the tank split the exhaust out the back.

A 3" pipe has a flow area of 7.07 square inches. A 2" pipe has a flow area of 3.14 square inches. So if you came off the headers with 2" pipe and merged into a 3" down the passengers side with a 3" muffler and then split it again into 2" to go over the rear axles and out each side there would not be any restriction. I will bet you can find a 3" inlet muffler with dual 2" outlets.

A 2" exhaust is more than enough for our trucks unless you are running a heavily modified engine. If you want to go bigger go to 2.5" and 4".

I've got a Flowmaster in my garage that is 3" in and dual 2.5" out. Might be dual 2" out... I'd have to measure.

But yes, they do make them.
