Default Carter 2bbl Carb gasket screen???

Looking for some help with my 78 D300. She has a 318 with a 2bbl Carter carb...I am replacing all the gaskets on top of the motor this weekend

When I pulled the carb off the intake I noticed that there was 2 thin gaskets and one thicker gasket that has brass bolt hole (sleeves) and then two screen inserts (1 for ea. opening) molded into it??

Is this a stock gasket???
should I re-use it (its in good shape) with a new carb to manifold gasket?? Any info on this "special" looking gasket would be much appreciated!!!

Thank you!

I think that is an after market thing said to increase fuel mileage and power through better atomization of the mixture.
Most likely B.S.

Sounds like a throttle body spacer with the appropriate top and bottom gaskets. Yes reuse the spacer and replace both gaskets. If it is what I think it is the spacer is meant to limit heat transfer to the throttle body.

I don't see any harm in keeping it as I said previously but if you do decide to eliminate it I would keep it and put it away in case you start having problems from eliminating it. Any problems will probably not show up until the weather warms up. Be aware that this will change the height of the carb and therefore change the rod length for the choke heater. From your picture it looks like the choke heater is not all there anyway or maybe it has just not been installed yet. Sorry about the throttle body reference earlier. It should have read carb spacer not throttle spacer but the reason for its use remains the same.

Default Thickness

Thanks for all the input....I went to NAPA and picked up a new carb to maifold gasket/spacer. it is the same thickness as the other (3) gaskets combined. So the height is the same as the three stacked with the "unusual screen" one included.

Not enough threads on the 4 studs on the mani to mount the carb onto with the extra screen gasket....so I will try running the new gasket without the screen for a while and see if there is any difference. I'll keep y'all posted if I notice anything.

With my luck that screen was good for 10-15hp and an extra 3-5 mpg's Hail JC whitney !

Thanks for all your help!
