Default 360/ tranny rear end combo?

I have a 84 d150 with a 318 auto. I am tearing it apart right now and building it up. I have a 360 which I am rebuilding and adding quite a few performance parts to so my question is what would be the best transmission and rear end combo if I wanted it to not only be fast but a good driver for street/highway. The engine will give me the power I want, I need the tranny and gear ratio to make it nice to drive.

Thank you for your input.

I would convert over to the 46rh. A bit of work but it can be done.

No other input on this? what transmissions will bolt right up to a 318/360? I am looking for one that would have O/D for a smooth ride but bolt right up. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

MonteC has suggested a transmission that should bolt up and has overdrive.

A 518 tranny will bolt up, but you need to do a few little things to make the lockup work.

Get a overdrive tranny for sure thats built with a good tranny cooler and deep tranny pan. On the rear end 4.10's would work great in a 9.25.

i don't think you will have to do much if you get a bit older 518 with lock up. my old 32rh had lock up torque converter and there was no wire for it.

My 727 has lockup. Am I missing something? It was originally a 518 truck.

I read into that 518 swap, and it sounds like a good choice. Just wondering about the fact you hooking up extra stuff for it and toggle switches. Will it all be automatic, the OD and Lockup and the switches are to turn them off for say towing purposes... Or do you need to be sitting there flipping switches while driving at different speeds. I hope not. Plus side to this is I work at my dads salvage/wrecking yard so spare parts is no issue.

I hope it all works automatically cause if I wanted to be flippin awitches I'd buy a low rider and call myself snoop dogg! haha.

Thanks again for all your input.
