Default tune up question: 1988 Dodge Ram D100

Long story, but the short of it is I want to set the timing on this vehicle - Dodge Ram D100 Pickup, Automatic Transmission. 318 (5.2 Liter) engine with throttle body fuel injection carb. I know where the timing marks are, etc....just not sure how to remove the engine advance mechanism...there is no vacuum or hose going to the distributor.....distributor appears to be the "dual pickup w/ no vacuum advance" type....

So, how do I disconnect the "advance" mechanism in order to set the idle timing??

The truck has been sitting up for 3-4 years (unknown as to why)...any suggestions for the tune up with that in mind would lbe welcome. The gas tank has been flushed - new computer, new fuel filter. It runs (not great, but it does run).

Thanks, Mike

The advance is controlled by the computer. With a computer, you just disconnect the coolant temperature sensor, make sure your idle is correct, and set the timing to specification.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located?
