Default Throttle Position Sensor overide

Hello everyone. Much thanks for prior help. Looking for a bit more.

My 1992 Ram 250 diesel is having a little problem knowing what gear it wants to be in. When I am driving around 50 mph, it shifts back and forth between 3rd and overdrive. I've been told that the problem is that the Throttle Position Sensor needs to be replaced. I've also been told that if I want to, I caninstall a toggle switch on my dash to override the TPS by feeding a ground to it. I'm not sure I want to do this, and would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Thanks
