Must not of had that 440 tuned right.LOL what heads was you runnin on it?
My friends 77 4x4 1 ton runs in the low 12's but it's got alot of work done to it. And yeah the gas mileage really sucks.
Cool truck and build, even with the stinkin cheby motor. You got to expect alittle harassment!! TRADER!!!!!

The 440 had the 452 heads on it I think with the factory truck cam( small at .420 lift) and the compression came in at 8:1
I installed the Edelbrock heads, bumped compression with the smaller chamber to 8:4, but it wasn't enough, I almost built that motor and I know it could have been badass, but the tranny was starting to give me issues and the np 203 was a complete pile.(200lbs transfer case)
I figure even if I put a 3200 stall and any decent off the shelf cam( most likely a 228r cam with .588 lift) I should see a high 12 and still get the 17 mpgs on the highway.
This was a 98 LS1, one of the first design for the heads, the later factory heads flow near another 30 cfm with a smaller chamber that would also add 20ish hp without sacrificing mileage. I have also been debating 4.56 gears, many claim no loss in mileage if speeds are kept 65-70 on the highway, city mpgs sometimes goes up due to the load that is taken off the engine during stop light take-offs

I think later that night he ran a 13.8, so the car had it in it, he just needed to launch it better.
