93 Trans. Question
Hi guys,I have a 93 Ram with a 5.2 and auto trans.
I have started to notice that it doesnt seem to want to go into 3rd gear like it should. It will shift fine till it is time for 3rd and then it seems to stay in 2nd until you speed up and or shift it by hand into either neutral or into 2nd and then back to Drive. It then seems to go to 3rd and sometimes the shift to 3rd is a little hard.Sometimes it seems to shift ok.It has right at 153,000 miles on it.
Is the tranny going out?
Thanks

If you are going to own and work on a vehicle you need to get a manual. This procedure is explained in the manual with pictures that show you what parts they are talking about. Without those pictures I doubt you will know what to do even as I tell you the steps. That being said I will try.
1. Remove the air cleaner.
2. Place feeler gauges equal to 0.110 to 0.120 inches between the throttle lever and throttle stop located on the throttle body.
3. Depress the cable lock button on the cable where it goes thru the front of the cable bracket.
4. Pull the cable rearward until the cable wiper retracts completely, then release the cable lock button.
5. Raise the truck and place it on jack stands if needed to get under it at the drivers side of the transmission.
6, Rotate the throttle valve lever clockwise, as you look down on it, until the cable adjuster ratcheting stops.
7. Remove the feeler gauges and check the cable adjustment. Make sure the transmission throttle lever and the lever on the throttle body move at the same time.
8. Replace the air cleaner and remove the jack stands if used.
