Do I need my cat converter on my 1991 d150 w/318?

you might. depends on where you live. most places you do need them.

My '89 doesn't have an o2 sensor after the cat, so assuming your '91 is the same, the truck wouldn't know the difference. Here in FL there's no emission testing so there's no reason why I couldn't. In fact, it's on my to-do list. Besides, the government has more to worry about than a missing cat off an old Dodge right now.

If you don't need emissions, yank. If you only need a visual check, gut it. If you need a sniffer test, just leave it be.

i know people who have passed emissions with gutted cats. usually they don't work that great after a couple of years any way.

what do you do with the AIR injection then? would you remove the air pump also if you removed the Cat?
