Default 93 Tranny/Overdrive

Alright, so i bought a 1993 W350 360 Multi-Port FI about 3 months ago, put a rebuilt engine in it and replaced the radiator and all the necessary parts on the engine. i left the old tranny that has 195XXXmiles on it. The overdrive switch doesnt work properly and I am working to replace it, when Im driving down the highway about 65 the overdrive switches on and off once about ever 5-10 seconds. and im not touching the switch, also when it downshifts the tranny makes a really high pitched squeal! Im not sure what to do about this? and also at low speeds i can hear a grinding noise and im not sure if its coming from the tranny or the rear end? theres enough fluid in the rear end and the tranny fluid is good. so im not sure what it could be? advice would be appreciated!.

Did you check the fluid in the transfer case?

I just checked the fluid in the transfer case and it was real dirty and looked like it had gotten some water in it. so I am going to change it and see how it goes after that.

I have a 1992 W250 with overdrive. You could pull off the plug on the drivers side of the trans. This will disconnect the over drive solenoid inside the trans till you fix the OD switch on the dash. If you have a locking torque convertor there will be 3 wires otherwise 2 on the little white plug. The truck computer runs the overdrive when it is not turned off by the dash switch.

engine for sale
Posted by truckistDepending on year, a reflashed ecu, cold air intake, 4" exhaust, mandrel bent crossover, marine injectors, intercooler, etc etc.
A few of my vehicles have had leaking transfer case and its a pain to find good used engines. Any one got any suggestions other than salvage yards?
