Default Throttle cable

Is there any way to take up the slack in the cable, it looks as though it has stretched making my gas pedal sink down about 2 inches preventing me from going passed about half throttle. It's an 89 d100 5.2l

Down at the peddle there is a black plastic stop that has a split in it to allow you to change the cable. If you remove the stop and put a couple of washers between it and the rubber bumper and then put the stop back in place that will take up slack in the cable. Make sure the hole in the washers is big enough to fit over the stem of the plastic stop.

If your cable has really stretched, then I would consider replacing it. My cable snapped on me a few weeks ago. Very frustrating to be sitting on the side of the road when a $23 part fails. I dodn't have my toolbox with me, so I couldn't even rig up a temp fix to get me home. New cable was cheap and available at my FLAPS the next day. 20 minute install.

I put a couple tie wraps behind the plastic thing on mine to take up slack. That was about 5-6 months ago, never thought about it until this post but it's still holding fine.

Thanks seal. I tried this first thing this morning and it makes a huge difference. It saved me from getting hit when I took it out to see how well it worked too.

thanks for posting this. I checked on my truck, and the throttle cable is very stretched out. it looks like its only about 50% throttle when the pedal is floored. would explain why i thought the truck has always driven like a dog since i bought it this past summer. going to buy a new cable
