Default 74 d100 step side

I have a 74 d100 step side that came w/ a slant 6 and 3 speed on the column. In the process of switching it out for a 318 or 360 with auto trans. I haven't decided which one to go with, any suggestions? Does anyone know what years and makes dodge/ Chrysler vehicles that I could use for donors? I need just about everything. This truck didn't have ps/pb, or ac and would like to add it. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Luckily, Chrysler didn't change much engine and trans-wise from the mid 60's to late 80's. For example, the radiator in my '89 Ram is out of a '71 Plymouth Satellite. You could probably get the accessories (p/s pump, a/c comp) off just about anything with an LA series V8.

Default Thanks

I can get engine/ trans out of a 70's monaco that has everything. Also have a satelite thats available. Which one would be more practical to use? Could i swap the rear end as well from the monoco to the d100? I'm still up in the air about what engine to use, any suggestions? Pro's and con's for both. Thanks alot.

they are both good engines. the 318 will have better fuel efficiency and the 360 will have more horsepower and and torque.

LA series small blocks (A= small block, L= lightweight, compared to previous gen atleast) I think they start in '67 thru '92 I think (pre-magnum). My truck currently has a 318 and I bought a 360 with the plans of rebuilding it, but I've changed my mind. After doing research online, I can get an easy 300hp out of the 18 and better mileage. Everyone I've talked to says yes you get more hp and torque with the 360 but it's more thirsty too, and my truck is my daily driver. Worse case scenario I'll throw a 4 speed behind it if I want more fun. As far as the rears, I'm willing to bet the rear end in the Satellite is probably narrower than the truck. Monaco is a full size car I think so you may be able to measure that one and check. Good luck, stick with it, you won't be disappointed.

The LA came out in 1964 as a 273. The 318 version out in 67 or 68.

I always forget about the 273... shame on me, where would we be without it?
