Manual Locking Hubs
I have another question for you guys. If I was to change the front hubs on my 1989 150 from the autlocking to a set of manual locking, can I take all of the vacum hoses and lines from the transfer case to the frt axle off and the transfer case still operate like normal.I have read that if I find a one piece left axle I can also remove the actuator and I can have a normal 4x4 that I know is Locked in 4wd and I can manually lock the hubs and basicly have 2wd low range. Is this correct?
You can remove all of the vacuum lines from the transfer case if you go with locking hubs and permanently lock the left axle in some way. You will have to plug the throttle body vacuum port. This will give you a 2 wheel low capability for more towing power even on hard surfaces.
I removed the vacuum switch and plugged the hole in the T-case myself because something inside the t-case was not actuating the switch. I moved the switch inside the cab where I can manually engage my vacuum motor so I know this can be done. I prefer not to have to leave the cab every time I want to engage/disengage 4x4.
