Default '81 Crew

Just picked up a 81 3/4 ton crew cab, short box 2wd. It has a 440 powering it. The problems are, the floor is gone, not really a problem it sitting at the body shop right now, but the big problem is that the tranny is shot. I tried to drive it to the shop and only made it a couple miles before it wouldn't move on its own. Is this truck worth anything?? Not sure if it is worth it for meto try to rebuild it or part out or resell as whole project. I appreciate any info or help anyone can give me.

Its cool as all get out. I'm sure that has to be worth something to somebody. Even if its only to you.

crew cabs are nice to have. if i could find one in my area that was in my budget i would buy it. i would even strip parts off 81 or 91 if i had a crew cab.

The tranny is shot? Are you sure? I would try changing the filter and fluid when I adjust the bands before I would say the tranny is shot.

anyway, sometimes you can find someone to rebuild a 727 real cheap. Specially if you take it out and bring it in, another option is a tech school. bring it in as a rebuild for one of the students in the automatic trans class (maybe at night). I went to one of these night classes, the teachers are right on top of everything and student would fail class if trans rebuild didn't work good. I rebuild the trans in my dodge demon. (904). worked just great. Actually, 727's are fairly easy to rebuild also. Man I like those crew cabs, you never see one of the old dodge ones verymuch.

As usual, Seals spot on. That would be first order of business.

Thanks guys, now Im notmuch of a mechanic, but I can usually stumble around enough to get things fixed. so how do I go about adjusting the bands, and could that be a result from sitting many years. Cause if this can't be fixed cheap it will be passed on. Being a full time student doesn't allow much funds for expensive builds, even a couple hundred is expensive

did you check the transmission fluid level? if if is to low it can cause your truck to stop moving.

i went thru the fluids before I fired it up, the tranny fluid was low, so I filled that. The truck will move on its own when cold but after it warms up eventually there is nothing. Let it get cold and it will move again. I guess this could be an easy fix, just don't know what to do.

did you check the fluid level with the truck running and in neutral. the pump in the the transmission only pumps when it is in gear or neutral.
