Exactly where on the speed sensor is it leaking? This may be difficult to determine but is essential to solving the problem. Is it at the connection of the sensor to the adaptor, around the adaptor/case, or thru the sensor itself?

Correct me if I am wrong here but there are two parts here that we must look at. There is the sensor that should not even see any oil normally and there is an adaptor that should be sealing the oil inside the trans. I think you will find the adaptor is the actual problem.

The adaptor has an outside o-ring to seal it to the case. It also has on internal seal/0-ring that seals the adaptors drive shaft to the adaptors body. One of these is leaking and I would replace them both with parts from the dealership and here is why. Some of the seals in a trans are meant to swell when in the presence of hydraulic fluid to help them seal correctly and I am not positive if either of these seals fall into this category but I would not take the chance.

Here is a site that you may find useful for the trans you have. You can refer to it or even download the manual if you want. Page 17 shows your sensor.

I just put a trans kit in mine and replaced that seal that they told you was discontinued. I got it from the dealer so they are still available. I got the same story you did from the parts guys but I then went out in the shop and talked to the tranny rebuild guy and he went into the parts department and came out with one. I then paid a rather sheepishly embarrassed parts guy and left with the part.

these parts guys at the dealers are just to lazy to look up something up that doesnt involve a computer, had many dodges since the late 80's,im used to there ways.
anyway i just figured i would get a new adapter and at a later time i would find that seal and have a spare one for future use. thanks take care
