i think 78 was the last year they were an option in the trucks. they probably kept using them in other things till a later date just like the slant 6 was used in boats until 99

440 swap I did mine in a 73 3/4 ton power wagon. Motor came in a 77 Imp. (think it was an Imp.) Had to find truck oilpan (rear sump), motor mounts, ex. manafolds(I used headers), kick down linkage. Modifed the power steering mount from the car (heat and bend). Put truck tailshaft on the car trans 727.
Coming out of a Winnebago you should have some of these parts like the ex. manafolds. I'm thinking you my be lucky on mounts and the oilpan. But I haven't worked on one in a long time.
You want a 4sp? After you find a bellhousing you can put a 318 flywheel on it and go. UNLESS your 440 has a cast crank and came with an auto. Then you need a 440 flyweel for a cast crank 440. Because the 440 cast crank and also the 360s are externaly balanced.
Also the cast crank 440 aint going to have a hole in it for the pilot bearing.
A good engine shop can fix all that. When thay balance the engine while their rebuilding it for you.
Money fixes everything !

Oh forgot at some point in the 70s thay went to a bigger brake booster that hits the valve cover. You can buy a new one or find an old one in a junkyard. My 73 had the right one in it. Radiator inlets and outlets may not line up mine did.
Sure you want to do this? Gas being $3.30 or so and all. My 81 W250s got a 318 4spd and I'm thinking bout a slant 6 !

You could get the 440i in the trucks in 1981... that's a fact. Not sure why Allpar says otherwise.

And yes, I had to use a smaller booster as the one in from my 84 D250 did not fit. I used a late 80's Daytona one... bolted right in.
