Default Hood swap for '87 D-150?

I have a 1987 d-150, and I'd like to swap the hood for a 1974 or so Power Wagon hood.
Since I'll probably end up ordering the hood online and can't measure it up in person, I wondered if anyone has done this before and knows if the '74 hood will fit the '87 correctly.
Before you ask, "Why would you even do this?", well, I just like the look of the '70's hoods!
Thanks!

well i use to have a 78 and put an 88 hood on it.
the same as what you are doing just in reverse.
you need to use the older style cowl, for it all to line up right.
you may need to modify the hood latch a bit, nothing more than maybe useing the old style hook from the old original hood.
make sure to use dielectric on all the terminals of the distribitor cap, because the older style hood holds water in the indents.
when you lift the hood the water falls on the dist. just a safeguard
good luck

Default Thanks!

Thanks, that's great advice! I never would have thought about the rain (and snow in my case) building up in those indents.
I seen a 1st gen Ram recently that the hood had been modified to look like the hood on the Challengers, with the double scoops. It was awesome, but beyond my capabilities, I'm sure.
I'd like to see pics of different hood mods posted here if possible. Maybe it would just be easier to mount a scoop(s)!

the hood you are talking about that looks like the new challenger hood, its a nice looking hood i may put one on my 93 d150.
the down fall is its fiberglass, and also about $700. i have seen people make them with a donor hood from a older challenger but seems like a lot of work.my thought for mine is double scoops, but with the opening all the way at the front of the hood.
either way it is alot of work to modify the stock hood. mybe scoops from a 1970 dodge dart?? lots of options. good luck
