No vacuum advance on my dist. I'm amazed that it has been trouble free all these years.

ya but yours should have a vacuum line running to the computer that would do the same job as the vacuum advance. i put a distributor without vacuum advance in my engine when i was trying to trouble shoot my 318. it seemed to run the same with either distributor.

Mine too. Got the new comp but it's rained all day so I haven't been able to get it in yet. Anyone know the best way to get rid of that mouse urine smell? The truck has sat for 2 years on a farm so it's smellin pretty strong lol.

maybe check the heater box. i remember when i first got my 81 there was what looked like a mouse nest in heater box right behind that door on the heater box on the passenger side. now the only time my truck smells like manure is when the blower motor is on.

Thanks wolfie I'll check that out. I need to deep clean the whole thing too since the carpet is pretty nasty (lots of mouse crap). Are there any companies that make replacement carpets for these trucks? I could also use a new headliner, but I may be able to glue it back up for a while.

This stuff is amazing for removing odors. It is not cheap but if you can get the carpet clean this stuff will remove any odors and save a lot of money and work. It has a money back guarantee that I didn't have to use because it works. My son spilled gas in the back of his Honda on the carpet. He put this stuff on and the smell was gone. I have used it for mildew, pet stains, and body odor (sweat) in the seats.

Would I be able to find it at someplace like Lowe's or Menards or do I have to order online?

I bought mine at a True Value hardware store. These stores are individually owned and don't necessarily carry the same stock but you can look and ask.

Thanks for the tip seal.
I got the new comp in and still no spark. The motor turns over fine and the timing seems right. I have voltage to the coil with a drop when cranking. The only thing I'm not sure of is I have 12v at both poles on the coil. Shouldn't one be a ground? I tested it by putting the neg lead of my tester on the neg batt terminal and the pos on each pole with the ignition on. Could the pick up in the dist be bad or could the wires be mixed up?
