Default New to 1st generation

Just purchased at local public surplus auction 1991 Dodge D350 pick up owned by the public schools. only 90k original miles, 360 with automatic, runs great and seems to be very solid old truck. It will replace my 99 Ram 1500. What transmission is in these trucks ?? the indicator only show 3 gears so can it be a T/flight ??

well,if you have an od button on the dash its a a518,wich is basicaly a a727 torq-flite with a bigger end section for the overdrive. most likely this is what you have. if it was a special order trk. then it could be a727 but being a 91' every one i have seen with the 360 is a a518. hope this helps.
sounds like a good workhorse truck

I can't tell which tourqueflite you have but it would be a tourqueflite if it is original equipment. Look on the drivers side of the pan mounting flange for 3 sets of numbers. Take those numbers to the dealer and they can ID the trans for you.

Or look on the bottom of the hood near the latch. Almost all the old dodge trucks I've seen will have a list of what's on the truck right there

If you don't have an O/D off button in the middle of the dash, its most likely a 3 speed. And if it is, its most likely a 727.

Well. Mine blew up early in my trucks life, so I'm biased. Seems like a lot of them died young. But I'd think if yours made it this far, it probably won't have much trouble making it farther.

well the a518 to me is a good trans,i had one in my 92 ramcharger 4x4 a few years ago,and the only pboblem i ever had with it was the overdrive solinoid went out,but it was at that time only $55 at the dealer. drop the trans pan to put in.
my 93 d150 5.2 that i have now may be either a518 or 46rh,they swithched over in mid year 93 from a518 to 46rh. either way 128,000 mi.
and no problems with it. good luck

Thumbs up

One weakness on the 360 (I don't know about the other engines) is that the original timing chain last about 60K because of the plastic on the cam gear. You're has probably been replaced. Something to check out.
