Default 92 engine question

i have a 92 with a 4 speed manual. its 4 wheel drive. im looking to swap for a diff motor because mine is shot. im wondering if anyone knows what year of motors will mate up with the transmission. can i just get an old 70s 318, 360, 400, 440?. my plan for those would be to use a carb. or can i get like motor from like a 97 jeep with a 5.9 with wiring harness and cpu? just trying to see what my cheapest route would be.

the bellhousing on big blocks are different you will hav to get bellhousing with motor to match your tranny . also where is your crank sensor? on my aotomatic 318 1992 there is ahole in bellhousin for the sensor. could create problem with different motor

if you get a newer motor all the current wiring should be the same but if you switch to carb you would replace the ignition system but you could still use a newer magnum engine if you wanted. just have to switch intakes, add a fuel pressure regulator and switch ignition system and you would be good to go. i think the big thing is to find a engine that was from a truck with a standard transmission because if it is not you may have to have the crank machined.

is the crank a diff size in other vehicles?

found a 90 360 that runs good. intake, dizzy, ignition, carb. should that do it?

no the crank is not a different size but from my understanding the standard transmission cranks have a machined end and the automatic transmissions crank don't because they don't need to be. a 360 from a 90 might work but you would most likely have to switch intakes and distributors.

There "might" be a hole that you just need to add the pilot bearing to. I believe in the older motors that was the case.
