318/ 360 carbed Ram 2wd MPGs?
I know there is a MPG thread but Its 17 pages long and full of a bunch of different trucks. I'm would like to know what kind of MPG's people are getting with the 318 or 360 carbed Rams 2wd. Mine used to get 9mpg if it was towing or not when it had a 440 in it. Now I am reinstalling a 318 with a OD trans, I would like to have something to compare it to, to see if the OD trans was worth it.

I had a 318 with the OD trans a long time ago. It was a 78 long box 1/2 ton.
Pretty much stock. Seems I remember getting about 17 mpg on the highway driving at exactly 60 mph. Of course i had it tuned like a switch watch. Around town the OD does not help at all.Bet it only got 11- 12-(13??) city. Of course that is with the emissions crap on it and all stock engine. If I had put a more free flowing exhaust and had more compression, I think I might have squeezed 20 mpg highway out of it with a conservative foot. Remember, this is when gasoline was not the crap out there today. Also this was in FLORIDA. The air is real thick down there cause your at sea level. I blew the rear out of it and traded it for a 64 Dart GT with slant.

Both of my carb trucks that i don't have no more, Had 904's with lock-up convertes My 85 got 13 in town 17 on the road, My 86 got 17 in town 21 on the road they were both 318's with dual exhaust and 294 gears the only difference was the 86 had headers,The funny thing was the 85 only had 89,000 miles the 86 had 236,000 miles,So there go's the theory that highmilage motors use more fuel

Must be the 225,000 mile break in period in these motors. I have an 89 tbi 318 with exhaust and a modified stock air filter housing. Gets 12-15 with moderately hilly rural driving. 12 is driving aggressively. 13 is driving like a normal person. And 15 is wringing every last drop out of it. This is with 31.7 inch tires and 3.9 gears. So with smaller tires and faster gears, I'd expect better.
