Excess axle end play is usually caused by worn trust washers in the 9 1/4. This should not cause vibrations. If the axle bearings are OK and the axles are not bent I think you will find the problem is not in the differential.

well left truck at dealer on moday. i happened to give them a call this afternoon.when i called they had it on the lift, they checked it all out said everything in the front is tight, end play in axles is not bad. they did tell me that the 2 front tires are 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch out of round. that is what they said my shake/vibration is.that is all they could find.
i have an a/c issue with it also, told them to fix that and change the gear shaft selector seal, and change the motor mounts while they have it there.
just had my back disc surgery tues.morn, cant crawl under truck anyttime soon so let them do it. guess i will get 4 new tires when i get it back maybe by friday. the tires on it were on it when i bought it in sep.09
they are dated 3-5-05 but only have 4,000 miles on them. i guess they are just too old. they also were from discount tire co. were i went this past sat morn, they spun balanced them and said there was nothing wrong with them.no one can be trusted to give a good diagnosis anymore.
the other shop i went too sat afternoon said it needed a whole new rear 2,800. they tried to screw me dont you guys think???? thank you for all the info. i guess i would rather trust the dealer before anyone else, even if it does cost more money, may save some money in the long run by going to the dealer. thank you

That doesnt explain why it would vibrate when you had the rear wheels jacked up on jacks and spinning. and you weren't moving at all.

could have been cause of one bad motor mount, was not busted off,but the rubber did have a crak in it?? i am going to dealer this morn anyway to check it out with them, they wanted to show me the 2 bad tires. i originally had the front 2 on the back, then i rotated them, dont remember if it was before i ran it on jackstands or not..thank you

well got truck back from dealer yesterday evening.this morn i am going back to the tire shop that spun balanced the tires and said they were good, and give them a piece of my mind. i told them when i was there if the tires were bad,i would just buy 4 new bfgoodriches.they insisted the tires were good. guess a tire shop{DISCOUNT TIRE CO.) cant be trusted.
i had the u joint put in,driveshaft balanced, took it to the dealer paid them to check the whole truck out,bad tires is all the dealer could find.
DISCOUNT TIRE CO. neglagence is what caused all of the problem, with the shake/vibration. if they would have just caught the tires being out of round. tire problems,go to tire shop wright??
maybe if i argue with them enough they will give me some money off my 4 new tires today. all i know is alot of auto buisnesses have a lot of people working there that are (dumber than a box of rocks).
also got an a/c thread going with another problem, that an a/c business and the dealer cant find anything wrong. i know a lot about dodges, but like all of us(we are learning more all the time) sorry to complain so much.
incompedent buisnesses just drive me crazy. thank you

Just some friendly advice here. You can rightfully point out that they didn't catch the out of round tires and cost you money if the tires are actually out of round. I have seen just as much incompetence at the dealership as I have elsewhere. The dealership can't find your A/C problem so I don't know that I would credit them with finding your vibration problem yet.

Personally I hate eating crow myself. You might want to bite your tongue just a bit until you make sure it is totally the tires. Until the problem is fixed and the symptoms stop you can't be sure the tires are the only problem or a problem at all. You are going to look pretty silly if you rant and rave and they replace the tires and the problem is still there or if they put the tires on the balancer and show you they are not out of round.

If the tires are the problem and replacing them cures the problem then I would scream bloody murder and demand a discount.

well i skipped the other dodge dealer.took it this morn to a major shop that does everything . yet again they drove it felt every thing i said ,i even wrote all the symptoms down on paper and gave it to them.
they still say they cant find anything wrong. omg!! how many shops do i have to take it to?? just got back, took it to another dodge dealer this afternoon, they said they will look at it tomarrow,by the afternoon they should know something.. i sure hope so. why is this so difficult for a prof. to figure out?? at the moment i cant do it cause of my back surgery,or i would be able to figure it out. are these shops and dealers stupid or what?? well i guess we will see what this one has to sat tomarrow afternoon. thank you
