any thoughts on the line booster? I read some other forums and some of the rock crawler jeep guys said the line booster (i guess some type of capasitor) is required in the 318 after they get old. This seems odd but if it will extend the life of this old beast I would be happy to do it. Man I love this truck too much. the wify said now that its running I should dump it and not put another dime into it but I think it needs to stick around. My son is 10 and we enjoy turning wrenches together I think its a great rig to learn on. Anyway I am just stoked it is running and rambling on now. Line booster??

i would not worry about the line booster. i would say if the body and frame are solid keep it. these trucks are super simple to work on. you should see about cleaning up all the connection including the battery terminals. if your truck has aftermarket battery connectors corrosion could develop inside the wire clamps which can also cause it to not turn over.

What is a line booster? I had 72 satellite with 318 and over 150,000 miles and never had starting ploblems unless something in that system wasnt working properly.
Good battery cables(positive and negitive) and clean connections.
Good battery fully charged.
Good chargeing system.
And known good starter.

If you need a line booster to start a 318 you need to fix the problem. I have been around 318s all my life and I have never seen one, no matter what the mileage, that needed more than a regular battery could deliver unless there was a problem.

Sounds like sporradic bad ground. Remove a starter bolt and clean the spot around bolt hole with stiff wire brush until shiny. Get a NEW battery cable. Install cable from clean neg. battery terminal directly to starter bolt. Went thru 2 batterys and a starter on my 84 thinking they were the problem. when I clamped the neg cable of my jumpers directly to the starter, and touched the pos to the terminal on the starter, she started right up-from the battery in the truck.

What is it not doing? Not turning over, or not firing?
