Default engine swap

I noticed newer hemi's have cylinder delete to save gas. Can anyone suggest a good motor tranny swap that has that for my 89 w150?

W150 is an old version of a 4x4 ram 1500. W means 4x4 and D means 2wd

Hemi Motors Get Great gas mileage without the drop cyl. deal..If I had it~ I would drop a 2004 Hemi in it. What does it have now ?

I doubt there is an easy solution that has cylinder deactivation. Slant 6?

I have an old 318 in it now, but 8mp or 12 hyw on it's best day just wont cut it. I know some of the latest model hemi's have cylinder delete technology in them. That means that half the engine stops using fuel when you are just cruising, then all 8 come back instantly when you put your foot into it. Some of the newest Rams are advertising it as an option. I would love to find one of those drivetrains in a junk yard & know how to put it in my 87.

This thread contains so much more than I could ever tell you. Have you ever thought about a 5 speed swap instead? Or be totally crazy and go nv4500 turbo carbureted 318. I would bet you lunch it would be easier than the hemi swap. But if you want to do it, do it, and give us a build thread!

Did anyone else notice that the front drive shaft is on the wrong side to mate with our front ends? I will also bet that the better mileage you might get will never pay for what you are contemplating. If you want to do this just to do it that is your decision and I hope you enjoy the project but don't be fooled that this makes sense from a money standpoint because of increased mileage.

The new hemi uses the same bell housing pattern as the 727\A518 so he could just bolt it up his current trans but would need to notch it for the crank sensor unless he used the A518 from a 92/93 mag motored RC or truck.

To do the swap just for fuel mileage it makes very little sense due to the work\cost involved...for something different to build\drive it would make a fun swap provided the OP has the skills, time, and money.
