To calibrate the AutoMeter model I only needed to basically drive it 2 measured miles and that was it: http://www.autometer.com/productPDF/1140.pdf it was right on.

As for gears; an 1985 w150 was never offered with 4.10's; only 3.23, 3.54, and 3.90

Thanks for all the help. Looking at towing cams now. And I would be happy with 13mpg. Is switching to a 4brl carb and intake worth it?

If you go with a new cam and lifters you might as well since you have to take the intake off. Just a simple dual-plane intake is fine.

Here is a gear ratio calcuator so you can see your RPM and speed with your gear ratio and tire sizes: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

So that would be a good cam for towing and mpg?

You can find measured miles on most any expressway. They are marked every tenth of a mile. You haven't said if this is a 318 2 or 4 barrel currently. Going from a 2 to a 4 barrel will improve mileage if you can keep your foot out of it.

Pick a straight stretch of road atleast a mile long, ride with a friend in there car to find a spot. Then go back and drive it with your truck.

Just checked my plugs, the previous owner had the cheap autolight copper ones. Heading to store to pick up some platinum's. The truck has the msd wires/distributer/ignition.

Any preferred gap sizing on the plugs? If not, whats oem?

Which would you pick, summit or the flowtech, or is the hooker headers for 189 worth the extra 40 bucks or so.

update: Was looking on craigslist and ran across a edlebrock performer dual plane intake and edlebrock 600 cfm electric choke for 250! Guy ended up selling the carb and I ended up buying just the intake, adapter plate, and gaskets for 100! Not bad, wish I coulda got both since they both are almost new

Good catch on the intake...I've never had any luck getting stuff from CL...I'm always to late.

As far as your headers...after all the problems others have had with "cheap\inexpensive" headers I saved a little more and then went with the Hedman's but YMMV: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-79178/

Which ever set you get just make certain the flange that bolts to the head is good and flat. One set of Hookers I got it was "warped" and wouldn't seal properly. Use good gaskets and fasteners.
