Default idle question

i ran my slant six today, it was running rough took a while to start for some reason. i also noticed it was missing/coughing once in a while putting very little smoke out the exhaust what could cause this, also a side question i would like to rebuild the loose single barrel carb any part links will be super helpful. Thanks in advance, i did rev it up and it ran fine while high rpms just when it was idling is when the smoke puffed out.

What color is the smoke? Depending on the color of it, that could point you in a direction to look for the issue.

White is water or coolant- Possible head gasket, warped head or cracked block or head.

Blue is oil- Possible piston rings, stuck valve or bad valve seals.

Black is excess fuel- Possibly running rich, fouled spark plugs or timing is off.

Not tryin to scare you, just tryin to help you figure it out.

Start with pulling the plugs. They can tell you a lot about how your engine is running.

the smoke was blueish gray.

i bought a valve cover gasket and it was the wrong one so i used rtv until i can get the correct gasket, that really pisses me off buying a part and its the wrong flipping one.

Just remembering back to my /6 pickup and it had a manual choke. Does yours? Another thing that comes to mind is flooding the carb.

Not sure what you meant about a loose carb though.

the idle air mixture screw dosent make good contact with the throtle postion deal it jumps the track. It sounds like a cough you cant see the smoke to bad, its got new wires and newer oil in it the old oil smelled like gas, it does have a electric fuel pump which could be flooding the carb im not to sure how to adjust the float. This is a new problem at idle, use to run really high at idle above 1000 rpms now it hums along just misses every now and then, ill put it on you tube and post the link here so ya'll can see what im talking about. Thanks for your help.

Default new plugs screw messed with and nothing

i replaced the plugs the doffus i bought this truck from had four different plugs in it awesome by and standards. Any how its still missing seems like the carb is flooding cause it pretty constant, now it has a electronic flue pump but manual is still all there, just not used. It has the single barrel carb i was wondering how difficult it would be to rebuild it new float and all. Also if you had a good site that would help too. thanks in advance. ps i painted it with rustoleme it looks awesome

Default slant six carb question

what carb came stock on these trucks i dont have a book yet its in the mail got it on amazon for 4.99. heck of a deal i think. Also i will have to rebuild it and later tear down the engine and re work the piston rings a little oil is getting past them in three of the cylinders.
