Default Help: No brake lights

Just found out that my brake lights dont work, but the turn signals do and the running lights work also. Didn't see any shorts and the bulbs are good. Any ideas?

i would have to guess your problem is with the turn signal switch or the brake light switch since you say the turn signals work and they use the same bulb as the brake lights.

Without knowing the year specifics are harder to give, but I would check for power in and out of the brake light switch. This will cut your trouble shooting in half immediately and send you in the right direction.

It's a 85 with the 318. I just looked at the switch. The white wire going to the connector has been stripped a little and is exposed. Then I saw one of those braided ground wire. Is that white wire supposed to be grounded where it has been stripped?

The brake switch is a pass thru. Power in one wire that is passed thru to the other wire when you step on the peddle. No ground is involved. If you touch the two wires together the brake lights should come on so you can test the switch even without a meter.

Check your fuses. You can jumper 12 volts to each wire at the switch to find out which one goes back to the brake lights and which one goes to the fuses. Do your hazards work? they are usually on the same fuse.
