Forgive me for sounding dumb, but when I think cowl, I'm thinking the slotted piece between the windshield and the hood?

well i did my cowl repair yesterday. bought 3m structural adhesive, steel rivets and some 16 gauge sheet steel. it had 2 cracks, did not drive it yet to see if the noise stopped. im letting it set up(dry) good, plus it has been raining out.
would have been alot easier if the repair patches were still available from the dealer. thank you
