Gas Tank Swap

Does anyone know if a gas tank out of a 75-78 d100 swb fleet side can be swapped into a 74 d100 swb step side? The tank out of the 75-78 is much longer than the one removed from the step side. looks like they will fit, just not completely sure of it, like if the fuel neck will match up. Thanks again in advance for your help.
