Transmission Problems on 96 Ram
I just recently bought a 96 ram 1500 with the 318 it was supposed to have had a rebuilt transmission in it when i bought but constantly was losing tranny fluid so i tightened the bolts on the tranny pan and put tranny fluid in it seemed to have worked have put 4000 miles on the truck since then well I was leaving work and the pedal was seeming kind of hard i have also noticed lately that in order to shift from 3rd to 4th i have to let the rpms lower and then was able to shift in gear well i was on the way home and got stopped by a red light and went to accelerate and nothing couldnt go in any gear im afraid im going to have to go to the local junk yard this weekend and pull another tranny does anyone have any suggestions?

What tranny do you have? Tranny pan tells me it is automatic while manual shifting and peddle pressure says manual. You say "couldn't go in any gear". Does this mean you couldn't move the shifter to select a gear or does it mean what ever gear you selected with the shifter did not respond?

I checKed fluid level it was empty I had just put in a quart on Sunday and have watched very carefully and has not been leaking at all so where could the fluid be going and also will have to drop pan but filter was just replaced two months ago though and to SEAL it has the standard automatic so not sure of numbers on it really still learning the truck it wouldn't go into any gear at all that i selected with the gear shifter the shifter itself was moving but couldn't accelerate in any gear just reved up and wouldn't move at all

if the trans fluid level does not register then that would be why your truck will not move. hopefully no damage has been done but you may want to find the leak. it should not be that hard to locate the leak if it was rebuilt not that long ago and leaking is that bad. maybe you blew a trans fluid line?
