Default Oil dipstick 1988 Dodge Ram D100 w/ 318 engine

The saga continues. The engine had the wrong dipstick in it when I became owner of the vehicle. My local expert says the dealer gave me the wrong replacement oil dipstick - apparently he gave me the "marine" dipstick, which enters the engine under the exhaust manifold. This thing is like 33" long. He says the dipstick I need should be about 25" long - my dipstick tube is in the front of the engine. The former dipstick (as I recall) was about 22" long....so, the $30 question here: how do I figure out what to buy for a replacement dipstick??? Is there one that is longer than 22" and shorter than 25"?? Hell, maybe I've got a rebuilt engine w/ the wrong dipstick tube in it??? It's ALWAYS something!!! Thx, Mike

if you where to take a 318 out of a car you would definitely have too short of a dip stick. 25" sounds about right to me.

hairybeavers; Double posts cause confusion. Please only post in one spot. Look at your other post for my remedy.
