only know to NOT weld them. a little grinding is ok or drilling of it doesnt get hot. but dont take to much metal off. iam sure its a alloy, but dont which one.

Why do you believe that you can't weld on a frame? I have ground, welded, and drilled my frame without problem. "ALL" steel is an alloy. Basic steel is an alloy of carbon and iron. Then they add other elements to get the exotic steels.

Whatever steel it is it is very basic, nothing special. Welding to the frame is perfectly safe, as long as you know what you are doing with a welder.

Ok. I wanted to box the frame on mine. Didn't know what kind of steel to use.

Shoot any 'ol plate steel will do just fine. I would use 3/16" to match the rest of the frame, making it easiest to weld.
