Default positive cable

my main positive cable, the one that feed all the fuseble links is in bad shape its been spliced together at one time, on my 93 d150 5.2. i have added a few new links but ran a seperate wire to the battery.
my idea to repair this would be : add a new cable about 18 inches long, connected to a junction block with screw terminals and run the fuseble links off that. would this work well?? anyone else do this or something similar?? i dont want to switch over to a fuse block, and do away with the links. i dont think that would be a good option because links and fuses react differently to current.
all the rest of the cables are new, this is the last one i need to change.
thank you
