I have a 85 w150 and the motor finaly gave out. I have wanted to put a 5.7 Hemi in it for a long time. The body is in great shape and I just cant let it sit, so I tore the old drive train out and have been cleaning it up. I have priced some 5.7's (about 2005) and their talking $4500? I think thats high so I'll keep looking. I understand most of what's involved as I have done a jeep swap before(obdll) No direct question here just looking for Idea's and comments. OK I have one question, Is it true the newer Rams have a electronic gas pedal?
i think it would cost you more than $4500 to install a 5.7 hemi in your truck by the time you are all said and done. maybe if you want fuel injected you should go with a 318 magnum. you could probably get a parts truck to take all the stuff you need off of for about $1000
All of the Hemi vehicles have the electronic gas pedal. Mopar has the wiring harness and ECU that you would need to put a new Hemi and transmission into an older vehicle.
Well if the Hemi's are to high I will go with a 5.9 Magnum. But if I can get the Engine trans and extra's for $3500 I'm going for it. I thought I would get the Harness and ECU off of the donor truck. One thing I found out, It looks like the 45rfe trans all have a 4WD shaft and the 2 wd's have a adapter in the tail housing so I can use any trans!
If your serious about the swap I would look into the Mopar wiring harness. It is made to go into older vehicles. If you were going to try and take the wiring harness from an existing vehicle you will need a lot of extra stuff to plug into the wiring harness to make it happy. Stuff that you won't need with the Mopar wiring harness.
