i think it might be just one step above base. my 81 is also a custom and the only thing i can see is that it had factory radio. other than that nothing fancy.

My Power wagon is a Custom, and my D100 is an Adventurer. I just realized nobody cares but I already typed it out.

Couple of things I'd like to add, I am gonna assume the 318 is like the 360 and has holes in the side of the heads for pollution control stuff that have to be plugged off when using headers. the rest of it from what I gather other than the ignition is pretty much the same as a smallblock chev. Comp cams makes a bunch of different low rpm {rv} cams I am gonna go out on a limb and assume they make a cam with the same specs as the 340 cam dodge used to make, although that would probably just make power in the high rpm ranges. also a carb like a 570 holly avenger would probably work just fine on a 318

Oh ya and I have alluminum wheels like the ones that came on ford trucks in the early ninties with the round holes in them on my 85 the bolt pattern is the same but you gotta file out the center of the rim so the hub will fit......and they look sharp!

from what i have read over the last month i think a 570 holley is way too big for a 318 unless it is in a vehicle that see high rpm. i think something in the 400cfm area would be more suited for a truck that will not pass 4000rpm.

I disagree. Up to 600-650 cfm (in my experience) is fine for a 318.

my 81 ran with a 850cfm holley on it but it does not mean it was efficient. i think i read over on RCC about someone putting a 500cfm carb on his 360 and it seemed to work way better than it did with a 600 or 650 carb.

so you wouldnt use an aftermarket 4 barrel carb on a dodge 318 crazywolf? tons of people run 600 cfm carbs on 350 ci chevy's and 302 fords. i cant see why that would be a problem on a dodge... A 650 would probably be a little big for a stock motor, a 600 cfm carb would work just fine and the 570 avenger I recommended is actually recommended by holley for smaller cubic inch v8 motors

As for the guy who put a 500 cfm carb on and says it runs better maybe it does a lot depends on useage at low rpms offroading a little carb might be great, if he ever had to rev that truck up though like for passing he might find it just cant do it . one thing to remember about 4bble carbs is that a vacuum secondary carb basically runs on the primary's all the time unless you kick it real hard.

then Holley must be wrong then. there carb selector said there 390cfm carb would be perfect for my 81 318. you would almost have to have a redline of 6000rpm to even justify having a 570cfm carb. i have one and only average 10mpg. the with 4x4 and a 500cfm carb on a 360 is getting 14mpg.
