Default Choke Problems

Hello I am new to this forum and I was hoping someone could
answer my question. I have a 318 with a 2bbl holley 2280 in my truck.
I just recently got the carb rebuilt and cleaned. But now when I start her
cold, she bogs down with black smoke and stumbles when driven until
warmed up. The choke pulloff works (first thing I checked) and so does
the fast idle and choke element. What else could this be?
Thanks
Gerry
Also she runs much better when I reach in and open the choke so it must be running rich

it sounds like you know what is wrong with it. to me it also sound like it is running rich. there should be 2 screws at the bottom of the carb at the front. one should control the fuel on the left side and the other should control the fuel getting to the right side. to lean the carb out you would want to turn the screws clock wise. it is always a good idea to make sure they are adjusted the same.

I looked at the base of the carb
but I do not see any screws there.
Could they be somewhere else?

Man, havenb;'t heard about anyone else having carb problems in YEARS. I rebuilt a Quadrajet and a 4bl Edelbrock over the last year.

Here is a place for more info on the 2280.

Als, check this: http://holley.com/data/TechService/T...ech%20Info.pdf

Hope this helps.

they can be hard to get at. if your truck is stock with a/c it is probably even harder to see and get at them while the truck is running.
