Angry Full Tune Up...Now Won't Crank ((welp))

Well..not 100% tune up but ive done oil and filter, plugs, wires, dis. cap and rotor button..and after everything was done...MY TRUCK WOULDNT CRANK FOR ANYTHING!!!! im like, WTF lol how crazy. the plugs were HORRIBLE and dizzy cap and button was kinda worn down. it should have crank and hauled buggy after all this. i did wires 1 by 1 to make sure nothing was mixed up at all. i noticed the coil was not bolted down to anything and was just laying behind the carb. and i also noticed this fork looking thing laying over to the side. it looks like it has a job to be doing. ive taken a picture and circled it in the link below.

That is a noise suppression condenser. It is meant to prevent ignition noise in your radio. It should be bolted down to a good ground.

Are you saying it won't crank (turnover) or it won't start?

engine should run without the coil being bolted down. i would double check that everything is connected good. to me it almost looks like the wire in the coil may not be on enough.

the new wire i put on the coil had an abnormally long connector plug so i push it as far as it will go in without trying to damage or break anything. in the picture i attached, the red connector was kinda disconnected and kept making a DONG noise (the left side of the picture). you can even see how it still looks like its barely up there. after pushing it all the way on, my battery was too weak to crank so im leaving it on the charger while i go to work. what is that do-hicky?

Check the plug wires. If you made a mistake with the first wire when you had a choice of 8 positions on the new cap all of the wires might be 1 off.

I would also pull the cap and check the rotor. I have seen them brake in half if not installed all the way.

Turning the engine over with the starter is "cranking" the engine. The term cranking goes back to when they stood in front of the vehicle and used real cranks to turn the engine until start up occurred.

That do-hicky is a relay. Which one I am not sure. You can unplug it and see what happens. The symptoms will tell you which one it is. OR You can check the color of wires with a wiring diagram for your 85.

Do you have spark? Do you have fuel squirting into the carb?

yes sir there is spark and there is fuel squirting. i flooded it last night. i did the wires 1 by 1 with the old distributor next to the new one with both being in the same position. i also did the plug side of the wires 1 by 1 as well. im going to get a wire diagram to make positive they are all where they should be. and im sure i pushed the rotor all the way down but wont hurt to check again. gosh this sucks.

may i have very well messed up the timing somehow when changing the distributor and rotor??? was doing some research and i was having a bit of trouble putting the cap back on so it sounds kinda like what may have happened.
