Default Power Steering Gearbox

Hey guys, got a new 87 D-150 recently, steering was sloppy, you know the story. So I rebuilt the coupler, this took about half the play out. In the process of beating prying and heating the coupler to get it off the gearbox I seem to have broke the seal on the gearbox and now it loves to drink power steering fluid. My question is what brands of gearboxes have you guys used and recommend? I could just rebuild it, but I figure if I put a new or re-manned one on that it would eliminate the rest of the play. I'm on a budget.

Mine started leaking a while back, and quickly too. I used some of this http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...tid=9&loc=show and it worked. Granted, mine was an old worn seal, not a broken one. The good thing is that its only a $7 gamble. It has worked for me so far. I have no experience with replacing the box, thankfully.

If heating the coupler caused the seal to leak, I would doubt any kind of stop leak is going to work. Last one I installed was a reman from Advance Auto. First one leaked from day one but the second (warranty) replacement is still working fine after about 8 years. Do yourself a favor and do the hoses at the same time. Be careful with the hoses at the back of the pump.

got the gearbox changed, after i went and bought a pitman arm puller, broke it, returned it for another and got it off then. kept the stock hoses, they seemed to be in good shape, put new o-rings on. took it for a test drive and man is it tight! it feels like factory again. now just need to do an alignment and i can check "steering" of my to do list
