Default no oil on dipstick please help

Ok guys trust me this isn't as dumb as it sounds. When I bought the truck there was a stick where the dipstick tube was supposed to be (yes a stick from a tree). I took it our an put in a mr gasket dipstick tube that yes it is long enough to reach the bottom of the pan. I did an oil change and added 6 quarts but it isn't showing on the stick at all. Can anyone answer the question why? The truck burns oil of course and I don't want my engine to seize up please help.

how long is your dipstick? a stock dipstick is about 35" long and goes all the way down into the deep area of the oil pan at the back of the motor.

Since you changed the tube the length of the needed dipstick may be different than stock but you are right 21 inches isn't going to cut it.

Do you guys know a site to find a longer dipstick? Every site I go to only offers 21" and its hard to find one of these trucks in a junk yard (they never stop running ).

i would maybe check a 2nd gen 318. i don't think there should be much of a difference since the deep section of the oil pan is in the same spot.
