Unhappy 1991 Speedometer Doesn't Work

I have a 1991 Dodge D150 with a manual 4 speed. The speedometer has not worked since I purchased the truck. I changed the vehicle speed sensor ( It's an electronic speedometer with no cable. ) and it didn't help. What could a common problem be, the gear in the transmission? Wiring or the cluster itself? If there are ways to test anything please let me know! Thanks!

the very common problem seems to be the speedometer itself failing. as long as your voltage gauge has power the speedo should also have power.

Default The Voltage Guage

I don't know if it makes a difference but the Voltage guage reads low around 10-12 volts while running, I know it is charging around 14.5 V because I checked at the battery etc. Do you think the cluster may possibly need replacing? Thanks for the reply.

i would say if your voltage is reading a bit low there may be a problem with the cluster or possibly a problem wiring. i guess the only way to find out would be take it apart and test the voltage getting to the gauge.

The problem is very typical on 91's for some reason. I got these links from someone that has repaired several of them.

http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com/wiki/Odometer_Fix

http://www.speedometergears.com/chrysler-odometer-gears

He swears it's easy but I dunno. Haven't tried it yet.

The only speed sensor in the rear is for the RWAL (rear wheel antilock brakes) system and it has nothing to do with the speedometer.
